Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that the Ethiopian government will begin negotiations with “ONEG Shene”, which calls itself the Oromo Liberation Army; the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, April 17/2015 in Tanzania. The Prime Minister also said that a delegation, led by the deputy president of the Prosperity Party, will travel to Mekelle in the next few days to “continue the peace process” in the Tigray region. It was during his speech at the award and recognition program for those who contributed to the end of the war in northern Ethiopia (Tigray).
On the same program, the members of the delegations, who were negotiators in South Africa and Kenya on behalf of the Ethiopian government and the TPLF were awarded. Former Nigerian President – Olisegun Obasanjo, who facilitated the African Union-led peace talks, received a “special award”. Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and former South African Vice President Dr. Pumzi, who attended the peace talks with Obasanjo as “members of the panel”, were also presented a certificate of recognition. The United Nations Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Hannah Tate, and the US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mike Hamer, who have been participating in the peace talks as observers, were also given the same award. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who spoke at the end of Yesterday’s program, announced that two events will take place in the next week. The Prime Minister announced that one of the two events was about the Ethiopian government’s negotiations with “ONEG Shene”.
