Redwan Hussain (Ambassador), the leader of the negotiating team representing the Ethiopian government and the Prime Minister’s National Security Adviser, announced that the American government had made a significant contribution to the success of the peace talks between the government and the TPLF in South Africa and reaching an agreement.
Redwan (Ambassador) gave an explanation regarding the negotiation process with the TPLF and the contents of the signed peace agreement to foreign diplomats based in Addis Ababa on Sunday, October 06, 2022. At the end of his explanation, he mentioned the positive and negative contributions of foreign governments and international institutions to the peace process.
According to this, Redwan (Ambassador), who mentioned that the American government played a major role in the success of the negotiations, said, “The American government had an important role in persuading and pressuring the TPLF to come to the negotiations.” We are very grateful to the American government for this,” he said. IGAD, the United States and the United Nations participated as observers in the negotiations in South Africa, and he stated that the role of the United Nations (UN) in this peace process was negative.
Redwan (Ambassador) mentioned that the Ethiopian government appreciates the personal efforts of the person who observed the negotiations on behalf of the European Union, Annette Weber – a representative of the UN in Horn of Africa. “We have no problem with the representative. We appreciate their personal efforts. Those who failed to play a positive role in the negotiation, the EU, may have been pressured behind her back,” he said. Redwan (Ambassador) boldly mentioned that the European Union did not have an observer role in the negotiations, but was putting a lot of pressure on the Ethiopian government. He stated that the Ethiopian government has no complaints against the European Union as an institution, and pointed out that it is only one EU member country that is causing problems. He said that this European Union member country, which he did not mention by name, is still promoting the belief that the peace agreement will not succeed. He added that the Ethiopian government will work to resolve the dispute with this one EU member country.
Although Redwan (Ambassador) did not name the EU member country that he said had a negative role in the peace process, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ato Demeke Mekonen wrote a letter to his Irish counterpart a few weeks ago, blaming the Irish government for disrupting the relationship between Ethiopia and the European Union.
However, many political analysts are clearly pointing their fingers back to the Ethiopian government for such false allegations on the Irish government. The irish government and Ireland as a country are accused for being a voice of the voiceless. The only crime of this country is standing for the truth. But, on the eyes of dictators, the Ethiopian government, truth has no space – and that’s why the world has now become aware of the lies, denials, and false allegation behaviours of the government of Ethiopia.
